The First Session

Research has shown that the relationship between client and therapist is the strongest predictor of successful treatment; even more important than the type of interventions utilized.  The first session will focus on establishing this relationship.  When you arrive at my office for our first session, I will greet you in my waiting room and escort you to my office.Once comfortable, I will begin taking a detailed history of the presenting issues, background information, and your goals for treatment.  I will also discuss my office policies.  I encourage all new patients to print out the Service Contract and read it before the first session.  This way, I can answer any questions that you may have regarding my office policies.  This first session is a barometer to see if we are a good therapeutic match. If for any reason, you choose not to continue with me, I will be happy to refer you to a trusted colleague who can assist you.
